There's Something Magical About Painting with Wax

Imagine creating soft, translucent layers of color.

Adding texture that catches the light.

Carving into the surface to reveal interesting marks and patterns.

And discovering how a painting can change and evolve as you add another layer of wax.

That's part of what makes encaustic painting so fascinating.

The medium offers beautiful opportunities to experiment with depth, color, texture, and atmosphere.

You can create delicate, ethereal effects or bold, expressive surfaces. And each painting becomes an opportunity to discover something new.

If you've been curious about encaustic painting, I'd love to help you explore it.

Curious About Encaustics, but Wondering Where to Begin?

Perhaps you've admired encaustic artwork and thought:

I'd really love to try that.

But then a few questions come to mind.

  • What equipment do I need?

  • Is working with heated wax difficult?

  • How much will the supplies cost?

  • Do I need a dedicated art studio?

  • Will I be able to create paintings I actually like?

Those are understandable questions, especially when you're exploring a medium you've never used before.

Even if you're comfortable with other painting techniques, encaustics introduce new materials, tools, and processes.

Having someone show you the essentials can make a real difference.

You Don't Have to Figure It All Out on Your Own

In this course, I'll guide you through the fundamentals with close-up video demonstrations and a clear progression of techniques.

We'll begin with equipment setup, safety, and basic wax layering.

Then we'll explore texture, stencils, oil sticks, composition, color, backgrounds, and carving.

You'll have a supply list to help you prepare and the opportunity to ask questions through the course comments.

And because the lessons are prerecorded, you can pause, replay, and revisit demonstrations whenever you need to.

My goal is to help you feel comfortable exploring encaustics and excited about what you can create.

From Curious Beginner to Confident Encaustic Explorer

By the end of the course, you'll have had the opportunity to:

  • Create three original encaustic paintings.

  • Learn how to set up and work with encaustic equipment safely.

Sharing My Love of Encaustic Painting

I've been creating encaustic artwork for the past 10 years.

After spending years working in other artistic mediums, I discovered encaustics and fell in love with the translucent layers, beautiful textures, and almost ethereal effects you can create with wax.

One of the things I enjoy most is the freedom to keep experimenting and watching a painting evolve.

Over the years, I've also had the pleasure of teaching numerous encaustic workshops to people who were completely new to the medium.

Sharing that creative discovery with others has become one of my favorite things to do.

I know that working with heated wax and unfamiliar equipment can feel intimidating at first.

That's why I enjoy breaking the process into manageable steps and demonstrating how the techniques work.

My approach is friendly, relaxed, and practical.

I want you to feel comfortable learning, asking questions, and exploring your own creative ideas.

I'd love to share this beautiful medium with you.

— Jane Bellante

Watching New Artists Discover What They Can Create

One of my favorite parts of teaching encaustic workshops is seeing students become more comfortable with the medium.

Some students have told me they were nervous when they first began.

As they learned the techniques, they became more comfortable using the equipment and experimenting with wax.

I've watched students begin exploring texture, gain confidence with fusing, and leave workshops excited to keep creating.

Students have also shared how the lessons helped them move beyond their initial fears and create beautiful artwork.

Those experiences are a big part of why I enjoy teaching encaustics.

And they're part of what inspired me to share these techniques through a course students can explore at their own pace.
